Hilton Worldwide announced a major expansion in its pet-friendly offerings, adding some 3,000 additional properties to the roster of hotels that welcome dogs and cats.
The move comes as pet ownership continues to rise during the pandemic, which in turn as more people become vaccinated and feel safe traveling is leading to increased interest in taking their pets with them.
The addition brings the total to over 5,000, representing 85% of all Hilton hotels in the United States
The list of pet-friendly hotel brands includes Canopy by Hilton, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Tru, Homewood Suites, and Home2Suites. In addition, certain Conrad hotels and some hotels that are part of the Tapestry Collection are also pet friendly.
Some, but not all, hotels offer pet amenities including dog bowls and waste bags. Canopy has a “Paws in the Neighborhood” program that includes dog beds, dog food, water bowls, and a “bark bag” that includes treats and a toy. Pet policies do vary somewhat by property as well.
“Leaving a pet behind or boarding them when traveling can be stressful for both pets and their owners,” said Phil Cordell, who serves as head of the hotel’s lifestyle brands unit, who noted that many travelers have made pet-friendly accommodations “a key factor” in determining where to stay.
In addition to the increase in the number hotels offering hospitality to dogs and cats, the hotelier said that it is also expanding its partnership with Mars Petcare with Pet On-Demand, an online service that will answer questions regarding travel for dogs and cats. The service does, however, have to be accessed by a human and is available at over 4,600 Hilton properties.
