Teams will be self-navigating the race with a compass and map, taking in the sights like Mthatha Mouth, Mdumbi River and Hole-in-the-Wall.
This is the sixth edition of the annual event that combines several disciplines for the ultimate adventure.
Each discipline is broken down into various stages throughout the race: mountain biking for 61km, trail running and trekking for 27km and kayaking for 12km. Other disciplines include abseiling (into a cave), kloofing (canyoning), coasteering and orienteering.
‘A driving force for creating this race is to offer a platform that shows off this special region to the world. What better way to experience the culture, landmarks, people, and sheer beauty of the Wild Coast than through an adventure like this?’ says co-founder Bruce Viaene.
Covid-19 has taken its toll on the communities that needs tourism to thrive. This is a race of community inclusion and involve local entrepreneurs, guides, artists and restaurants along the way.
‘It’s a big opportunity for our business. Since Covid came, we still have many challenges facing us,’ says owner of Mdumbi Kayaks, Notshana Rwandiso.
