Egencia has developed a new display tool to show business travelers and agents the availability of rail options when booking short-haul flights.
The Egencia Air-Rail Display gives an alert when they are booking a flight when rail service covers the same route, which comes with a lower carbon footprint and at times can be quicker than air travel. The tool is meant to show “alternative journeys that produce less carbon at no extra time or cost, [help] support corporate sustainability targets and [give] travelers the confidence they need to make the best travel choice for them,” according to Egencia VP of technology Sergio Fierens.
Some corporates trying to reduce carbon emissions generated by business travel have identified the difficulty of presenting rail alternatives to travelers during the booking process. For example, Salesforce travel services manager Jenny Sabineu recently told BTN the company challenges with existing booking technology in accommodating a new rail policy as part of a carbon-reduction initiative.
The Air-Rail Display currently is available for travel in the United Kingdom, France and Sweden and will be rolled out to additional countries later this year, Egencia said.
