Air Canada has extended its deadline for requesting airfare refunds for flights affected by the Covid-19 pandemic by a month, the carrier announced.
Travelers who bought nonrefundable tickets before April 13, 2021, for travel on or after Feb. 1, 2020, but did not fly now have until July 12 to request a refund, a 30-day extension from the original deadline of June 12. Air Canada implemented the refund policy in April as part of a liquidity program agreement reached with the Canadian government.
So far, about 40 percent of eligible travelers have requested refunds, and Air Canada has processed about 92 percent of submitted requests. That number is “lower than anticipated, and most have kept their travel credit, Air Canada travel voucher or Aeroplan points, which we are pleased to see as it is an indication they plan on traveling in the future,” according to Air Canada EVP and chief commercial officer Lucie Guillemette.
